Telkom and Telstra today signed a Memorandum of Understanding stating their intent to work together to explore the creation of an Indonesian Global Delivery Centre (IGDC) through their joint venture, telkomtelstra. The proposed IGDC will service local and global enterprises in the areas of professional services, project management and IT.

This strategic arrangement will enable telkomtelstra to leverage the large pool of digital talent available in Indonesia and support Telstra’s international growth strategy.

Telstra Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Penn, said the MOU reflected the growing technology partnership between Telstra and Telkom, extending on the project management and device accreditation services telkomtelstra already provides to Telstra.

“The MoU signals that we will now begin looking at how we can expand this work, including setting up and training a new team here in Indonesia to help service our global customer base. This would bring in-house activities we have traditionally outsourced to third parties and potentially create hundreds of new jobs in Indonesia,” Mr. Penn said.

“Indonesia is Australia’s largest neighbour, an important trade partner and an emerging digital hub. It has one of the largest talent pools in the world and the proposed new facility is another indication of the skills, potential and areas of collaboration and co-operation the JV can unlock.”

“We are pleased to see the continuation of the strong co-operation between Telkom and Telstra to invest in Indonesian jobs, especially those in the technology sector.” These new jobs would initially be based in Jakarta, with a view to potentially establishing another center,” said President Director of Telkom, Alex Sinaga.

The MOU was signed by President Director of Telkom, Alex Sinaga and Telstra’s Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Penn.

The IGDC will be operated by telkomtelstra, a joint venture between Telkom and Telstra set up in 2014 to supply managed telecommunications services to enterprises in the Indonesian market.
